Finally, the practicum ends with the completion of the MATESOL course. This is a deep breath of relief.
Back to the April practice, there was an increase of collaborative activities. This rise was an indicator of the facilitation of negotiated interaction (Kumaravadivelu, 1994). The latter was indeed the first macrostategy I wanted to use in my teaching practicum. There were also activities that led learners to self-discovery, which concur with the activation of heuristic intuitive, the second macrostrategy I had decided to use. Overall, I am satisfied with the introduction of those macrostrategies, which will of course need to be of more use in the future.
Besides the use of the two macrostrategies, assessment was dominant in April. Students’ performance in the final exam was very good, with an average of more than 80%. Some students also wrote essays of excellent quality. However, many others’ essays were still of low quality. The average of learners’ essay 5 was the lowest of all the five essays. This was probably due to the fact that students are busy in their last days of the semester so that they do not have enough time for various assignments they have. Briefly, students work in their essay was not linear as I was expecting. In my future practice, this phenomenon will be observed to see if it is a general tendency.
